Crucible Steel has been making specialty steel in Syracuse continuously since 1876 when Sanderson Brothers of Sheffield England bought Syracuse based Sweet Iron Works. Crucible Steel Co. was formed in 1900 in a merger of thirteen crucible-steel compaies.
